  • - April 15 is "cancelled" -

February 24, 2023

My clients automatically qualify for the IRS' disaster relief related to the December/January storms & flooding across California.  The FTB hasn't conformed yet but we expect them to follow suit soon.

As my clients no longer need to file an extension or make any payments until October 16, the removal of these deadlines is tremendous and welcome news which takes a lot of pressure off me, and lets you keep your cash in the bank for longer.

With the removal of the April 15th filing hurdle, I am reopening limited consultations for potential new clients. Please reach out if you think you are a good match for a premium, remote service.

We have been receiving praise from our earlybirds for our fast turnaround time.  We'll continue to work in the order received.  Anyone who submits their complete data by March 15 should have final results by around Tuesday, April 18 (the original due date) at the latest.  Everyone who comes in after March 15 will be automatically on extension with tax payments postponed until October 16, while we continue to work in the order received.

  • - Automatic Disaster Relief for California Storm Victims -

January 10, 2023

Residents of many counties in California including San Mateo, Santa Clara, Napa, Monterey, Santa Cruz, and Sonoma all qualify for automatic disaster relief from the IRS.  Tax returns and tax payments for individuals and businesses are postponed until May 15, 2023.  HSA and IRA contribution deadlines are also postponed until May 15, 2023.

  • - Limited Availability Remaining for April 15-

December 27, 2022

We are selling out very quickly for the 2023 winter/spring tax return filing season.

We can still take on a few more entities: Trusts/Estates, Corporations, Partnerships, Multi-Member LLCs, and Exempt Orgs.  We can accept your personal/individual tax returns only if you have other entity returns with us.

We are fully sold out for standalone personal/individual tax returns & associated single member LLCs who want to file by April.  We might be able to assist if you are willing to go on extension.

We are not available for in-person appointments for document exchange or for annual/routine tax return filings.  For an in-person tax return experience, we suggest trying H&R Block.

  • - Did You Feel That? -

November 9, 2022

Well the recent deployment of ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning system was pretty amazing.  The adrenaline rush arrived before the tremors!  Here's another jolt that I know many of you may be experiencing:

Bloomberg Tax calculates that the number of accountants and auditors employed fell by 17% between 2019 and 2021.

This is a horrifying number, but was less shocking for me to read than getting that first ShakeAlert.  I've personally witnessed that the young people are running away screaming from this profession!  We are not replacing ourselves.  Staffing of qualified accountants is the crisis that our industry faces nationally.

We are selling out rapidly every year, but I'm declining to expand by adding more staff.  I don't want to be passing you or your work off to junior staff whose lineup is constantly changing and as scarcity only gets worse.  I'm also not outsourcing your work to other domestic or international firms.  I would rather spend my time communicating with you and actually preparing your work instead of training, delegating, and supervising others.

My clients only ever have to communicate with me, and I am the one who actually performs your work.  These are some of the ways our service is very special, and which I am very proud to offer.

  • - Fully remote for Omicron -

January 3, 2022

Unfortunately the start of the 2022 busy season is coinciding with the takeoff of the Holiday & winter weather surge of the highly-contagious Omicron variant. I am now isolating again, professionally and socially, to maximize the odds that I'm able to stay healthy and perform your work in the time frame you expect.

My office is temporarily closed to visitors, so please send documents using my encryption link, email, mail, or deposit in the document dropbox at my door.  Requests for in-person appointments will be declined.  I'll greatly miss seeing you in person right now, but will enjoy being able to serve you by email, phone, video, and mail instead.

Thank you for your understanding that it's time for me to take extra caution. This is a bummer, but temporary, and I look forward to reopening the office again soon.

Expecting a 2nd stimulus payment?

Check your mail for a prepaid debit card, it may not arrive via direct deposit

Opt In: IRS IP PINs

An IRS Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) is a six-digit number that prevents someone who doesn't have the code from filing a fraudulent tax return using another taxpayers' Social Security Number.  Previously, only victims of ID theft received IP Pins after-the-fact.  But starting in 2021, individual Taxpayers may voluntarily request an IP PIN from the IRS using this link:

https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/get-an-identity-protection-pin

You must authenticate your identity by answering questions based on activity in your credit history.  You have to request a new IP PIN every year.

Getting an IP PIN each year and using it when you file your returns is an easy step you can take to prevent your Social Security Number from being used in a fraudulent or typo'd return.  It pre-verifies your ID with the IRS, and can prevent those pesky follow-up ID verification notices from the IRS.  1/13/2021
